An ice fishing tip-up is a spool of fishing line on a stick holding a baited line suspended through a hole in the ice. When a fish takes the bait —usually a minnow — the pull on the line releases a signal, usually a red flag during the day. At night, a light is attached to the flagpole to signal when a fish has pulled the line.
The light shown above contains a mercury switch that activates the light when installed on an ice fishing tip-up.
